Born in Dresden in 1970 Simo Inspired by the hip-hop scene, he began painting the facades of his hometown as a graffiti sprayer in his youth. The beginnings of his art are illegal graffiti in the GDR.

has for years Simo further developed his artistic expression and created an extraordinary visual language of naturalistic painting. His pictures show abstract forms, arrows and cylinders in bright colors, presented in a three-dimensional and detailed way. At first glance, one would think of these works as typically abstract paintings; but they are not. Simo is not only a painter, he also builds installations, sometimes smaller objects and sometimes entire rooms. And it is precisely these sculptures that form the basis of his paintings. These images deal with a comprehensive view of art and a look at the connections between the different levels of representation.

You gaze into a seemingly abstract cube-like cosmos. Red and orange arrows cut through the space, landing in white boxes – symbols of those moments when we think we've understood everything. But barely touched, they dissolve back into the open.

SIMO paints this state of suspension photorealistically because he wants to make the boundary between understanding and further questioning visible. The boxes are the framework of your current understanding, the arrows propel you forward – just like the OZM yourself: Each room provides you with insights, only to immediately draw you into the next thought structure.

The painting was created from a real, walk-in cube room that SIMO created in 2018 in OZM built and which you can now only see here as a painting. It is a bridge between the ephemeral original and your living memory—a portal.
